Description: With him, she'd had some wonderfully stable times. She was born with Spinal Bifida, a birth defect where the spine and spinal cord don’t form properly. She learned to walk, but only with the aid of crutches and shoes with metal braces and leather straps that buckled just above her calves. She never went to school, but her older sisters taught her to read and write. When she was ten, he moved in to the house next door. They became friends. He was from Germany and also had a medical condition – he was a hunchback. After her mother’s divorce, she moved the family to California, but Lenore stayed in touch with her friend, whose name was Siegfried. Time passed, they corresponded. He proposed, she accepted.
