Description: She went to the restroom and on her way back, opened the wrong door. “Oh my,” she said, “I apologize for the intrusion. I thought this door lead to the landing above the restaurant, but obviously, I’m mistaken.” “No apologizes needed,” said the young woman, rising from her chair next to the canvas upon which she was painting. “Come in, I haven’t had visitors for several days now, and I would enjoy a break from my labors.” She extended her hand and introduced herself as Frida Kahlo de Rivera. “And who might you be” she said, “You don’t look like you’re from this neighborhood.” “No replied the first woman, I’m not. I’m from across the border, and I’m taking a break from my studies. My name is Gabby, Gabby Maria.” Frida invites Gabby Maria to sit down and they visit for over an hour. Frida tells Gabby of the horrible bus accident that almost took her life, of the excruciating pain she has had to endure during her recovery time and how painting has helped her to cope with the pain as her body renews itself. Frida is a Mexican artist and becomes one of Mexico’s beloved artists who captures the country’s popular culture with her native folk art style of painting.
